I've been posting more photos on Flickr - I've decided to use this service instead of building my own Gallery on this website, as the upload tools are easier and I just like the Flickr interface better. Enjoy the pics.

Enjoy!
Yes, it has been - we had a week just past with three days over 100, and this week we have a few more coming. Carol and I had breakfast with a couple from our church on Saturday, and we all agreed that October couldn't get here soon enough.
I've not been blogging much, but hope to become more regular. I'm simply going through a period where I'm fairly busy, and having the feeling that too many words leads to foolishness. Still, I'd like to post more entries and get some pictures up here too, so perhaps we'll make it happen.
Enjoy the rest of your summer. We're hoping for October.
I've been reading with interest articles like this one .... it's by some people at Google who are interested in making their company more environmentally friendly. The cars are modified Toyota Prius models with more batteries and a charging system. They are called electric cars with a gasoline safety net - the gasoline engine only runs when the batteries run down, usually after you've driven around 50 miles.

Congratulations to Stephen, who graduated from Georgia Tech last Saturday. We are proud of him, of course.
He graduated with High Honors with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
It's a beautiful day in Atlanta today - 75 degrees, a little breeze. It's one thing I love about living here - the weather is downright gorgeous this time of year. There are a lot of people who are still dealing with 50's and rain, but here in the South it's spring.
We have our downsides - the traffic is bad and getting worse. City government is inept and incompetent. We had two police indicted for a botched drug raid where they killed a 90+ year old woman for no good reason.
But the weather is beautiful and life is good. We are thankful to God for a nice spring.

This is the group shot from the Ake family trip to Vogel State Park in June of 2006.
It's interesting that President Bush is in Brazil today talking about ethanol, and reducing our reliance on foreign oil imports. The problem with this spin is that the U.S. has a $0.54 per gallon tariff on imported ethanol, mostly due to a nod to the corn-producing states, most notably Iowa, which holds the first presidential caucus in the election cycle. Because of this tariff, we cannot import cheap Brazilian ethanol, and the price of ethanol remains artificially high.
Science has become such a tool of political agendas, that when you see an article like this from National Geographic, it's got to have Al Gore grinding his teeth. What do you mean that the Sun might be causing global warming? That means we can't further our political agenda to make everyone drive cars that are the size of dishwashers!
Anyway, it's an interesting article and I recommend it.
This is a really good article about why the mainstream media is full of stuff that is not really news.
We're not planning on upgrading to Windows Vista around here - we'll probably keep Windows XP on the classroom computer just because some of the kid's conferencing software requires it. But I don't get having to shell out $99 for the crippled Home version of the product, just so I can spend another $$$ on Office 2007. Open Source is the trend here, and we just need to find all of the things that require Windows (like the tax software) and isolate them to the XP computer.
Sorry Microsoft - we just don't need it.
This is a picture I took at Amicolola State Park in November, 2006. The leaves were stunning that day.
I'm making the move to Drupal for my website / blog / photoblog. You'll notice lots of changes here - gone is WordPress. I've got to say that WordPress was a fantastic package as blog software goes. I'm switching because I want to enable others in the family to create content here, and I want to use the other content types that Drupal supports.
Stay tuned for more information and content. Thanks for visiting!
